Frequently Asked Questions
A theme is a central topic or message within a narrative. That being said, the themes aren’t exhaustive. It’s near impossible to enumerate on all of the themes one story could touch on; not to mention, everyone’s experience and perspective is different.
Think of it this way: themes are breathing entities — they are personal, complex, and sometimes even paradoxical in nature. Themes draw us into the story, but they strike each one of us slightly different, rarely striking us the same way twice, even when rereading the same story. Much like the Zen proverb, “No man ever steps into the same river twice,” a story’s meaning continues to be fluid, enigmatic, revelatory and novel.
Ultimately, themes are not walls built around the story, but rather doors into a story. Use the listed themes each month as an entry point to the story, and feel free to add on your own as the stories take on new meaning to you.
Teaching Beyond the Physical will hit on widely popular and universal themes that will enable your students to make sense of their world in meaningful ways. We’ll touch on big themes like love, fear, change and strength — and much, much more!
Each month, you’ll be given a theme for the month as well as a story for each week that pertains to the monthly theme. Along with the stories, you’ll find supporting discussion questions & prompts to lead into your yoga class or to incorporate into your class so that you can deepen the experience for your students; song suggestions curated in a themed Spotify playlist (for patrons only); and further reading suggestions (books & relevant studies) to further explore the theme.
You’ll receive 5 stories each month. For Tier 1 Patrons, content is released at the start of the month so you’ll have all the month’s stories, as well as supporting resources, available at this time. For Tier 2 and Tier 3 Patrons, content is released the week before the start of the new month so you can plan your month ahead of time!
Some stories I’ve personally written, others I’ve borrowed and some have been modified from their original text for the purpose of a shorter, more succinct narrative. After each tale, you’ll find its place of origin and author.
The short stories you receive each month are less than 800 words and because they are short in nature they enable us to capture the heart and mind of our audience in a relatively short timeframe...because who really ever has 20 minutes uninterrupted to tell a story? Short, precise and poignant stories allow us to create impact in the office, at home with our kids and with our students in the yoga studio.
If you need more content, the best options in membership are Tier 2 (VIP) and Tier 3 (VIP +) as these tiers contain bonus materials. A Tier 2 VIP membership includes a collection of short inspirational quotes and prompts which are perfect when you’re short on time or just need a quick sound bite to start class; Tier 3 VIP + includes the short inspirational quotes and prompts and also gives you holiday theming and stories, perfect for including seasonally throughout the year.
Note that bonus content part of Tier 2 or Tier 3 is given to you at the time of your membership so that you can use those stories and resources anytime you wish.
Teaching Beyond the Physical will hit on widely popular and universal themes that will enable your students to make sense of their world in meaningful ways. And while we’ll touch on big themes like love, fear, change and strength, you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in patron-only voting on themes you’d like to see.
Teaching Beyond the Physical is designed as a resource to use for teaching yoga and mind-body-spirit classes. That being said, the content — the themes, stories and resources complied each month — can be used and applied far outside of the four corners of your mat.
As a parent, these stories become meaningful ways to engage in discussions with your kid(s), to think critically about larger ideas and to incorporate notions of embracing challenges, letting go or even stepping into our fears.
As a workplace leader or managing director of your workplace, stories are great for starting important meetings, to get your employees to think about broader ideas. They can also serve as great ice breakers .
Truly the reach of the content included in Teaching Beyond the Physical translates over many disciplines and workplaces. Ask yourself: Who is my audience and what is the message I want to share with them?
You will be charged on the day that you sign up based on the membership option that you signed up for and will be billed on the 1st of the month going forward.
The main difference between the three levels of membership is the amount of content that you receive. All levels of membership receive: theme for month, a story for each week that pertains to the monthly theme, supporting discussion questions & prompts to lead into your yoga class or to incorporate into your class, song suggestions curated in a themed Spotify playlist, and further reading suggestions (books & relevant studies) to further explore the theme.
In additional to the Standard Membership, the VIP Membership includes short inspirational quotes and prompts, perfect when you’re short on time or just need a quick sound bite to start class.
VIP Plus includes everything in Standard and VIP as well as holiday theming and stories, perfect for including seasonally throughout the year.
You may cancel your subscription at any point in time. Please note: if you choose to cancel after the 1st of the month (the monthly billing date), you will still be billed for that month as you have had access to that month’s materials.
You may choose to upgrade your subscription at any point in time. Please note: you won’t be billed immediately for this. Once you confirm the change, you’ll be charged for the upgrade on the 1st of the next month, at which time you’ll unlock access (and all bonus materials) for that tier.
